The Charles Neer Award is considered the highest award in the field of shoulder surgery. Winners are chosen annually for ground-breaking research that impacts the field. Dr. Nagda was awarded the Neer Award in 2005 for research on nerve injury in shoulder replacement. Dr. Grant Garrigues, a long-time friend of Dr. Nagda, was the lead on the most recent paper focused on rehab needs after reverse shoulder replacement. The project spanned 6 years and had many challenges to get the completion. In the end, the paper was reviewed and chosen over many outstanding papers for scientific merit and contribution to the field. “Its truly an honor to receive this award in one’s career. But to win it twice is something I never could have imagined when I was an intern and resident at Penn! The caliber of surgeons who participated on this project was truly world-class, and the project represented the hard work and efforts of all of us!”
